Do you have a child or young adult in your life who would enjoy meditation? Mindfulness meditation for young people has been shown to increase focus and attention, to boost confidence and self-compassion, and to provide a valuable resource that can help cope with stress. Of course, we all want these benefits – this is definitely an opportunity for you to build new skills as well! We increasingly live in an “attention economy”, with social media and other distractions threatening to fragment our lives: mindfulness can help us all find our way through this maze, and help us re-centre ourselves.

We’ve already run a number of mindfulness workshops at Miles and Green, and this summer we are offering a six week course in mindfulness and meditation for adults and young people together. Each session, we will introduce a particular form of mindfulness or other meditation practice, and then give you both a chance to try it out and ask questions. We’ll also talk about how it can help in our everyday lives, and offer you some suggestions about how you both might build on the practice between sessions.

If you’re planning some time away during the summer, don’t worry – you can skip a couple of weeks and you’ll still get a lot of value from the rest of the sessions. This course will be aimed at adults together with young people aged from 8 to 18 (our teacher, Clive, has been meditating since he was 12). There are no prerequisites for either of you, other than the ability to sit and pay attention for 45 minutes or so, respectful of the others in the class. There will be lots of variety and practical exercises, opportunities to sit quietly and times to interact together. If you would like to accompany more than one child, please do, although do remember that you’ll need to be with them at all times, and they will be your responsibility!
