Workshop – Introduction to Yoga [90 minutes]
Teacher | Josie Harrington

We often think of yoga as about postures/shapes we make on the mats, something that’s only for flexible people & not for those who can’t touch their toes! However, Yoga has so much more to offer everyone. Science is now able to prove the powerful effects that yoga can have on our Health and Wellbeing. In this workshop you will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of the practice of yoga and explore for yourself its effects on your body and mind.

Who is this Workshop for?
This workshop is for anyone who is interested to find out more about the ancient practice of yoga, whether you’ve been practicing for years, not practiced for a while, recovering from an injury or illness or never stepped onto a mat.

What we will do?
We will have space to explore and discuss what yoga is and is not – we will then practice yoga together and explore the foundations of a practice;

Yoga Philosophy -yoga is steeped in philosophy, helping to cultivate a helpful attitude to our practice and lives. I will briefly discuss this, if you want more detail join me for the level 1 course.
Breath – how we breathe has a direct correlation to how we feel, we will explore why breathing well is an important aspect of a yoga practice & everyday life.
Postures -we will explore how to open the body and find more space to release tension, as well as postures to increase strength and flexibility, whilst cultivating an attitude of curiosity and fun.
Relaxation – finishing our time with a Yoga Nidra – sleep yoga! The queen of relaxation practices.

There are so many potential benefits from a regular yoga practice – physically we can get stronger and more flexible, reduce our stress levels and sleep difficulties, improve memory and concentration, reduce irritability and anger, increases energy levels and mood.

If you enjoy the workshop, the level 1 course will provide the opportunity to explore in more depth how to access the many benefits of a regular yoga practice.

The Studio at Miles and Green provides a safe and quiet space with a small group of people to explore the ancient practice of yoga. A supportive and safe space for anyone who is curious about yoga and my teaching style.

Introduction to Meditation and Mindfulness @ Miles and Green
Apr 27 @ 9:30 am – 11:00 am

Mindfulness and Meditation seem to be everywhere nowadays, available in every form from 2 minute apps to ten day silent retreats. But what is mindfulness? What are the real benefits of meditation? How can spending time quietly looking at what’s going on inside our own mind help us in the real world? In this workshop, we will take a tour through the fundamentals of meditation, it’s Buddhist roots as well as what science has to say about the benefits of mindfulness. We will try out several different kinds of meditation from different schools, each with their own objectives. You’ll have plenty of time to ask questions, and you’ll get real practical hands-on experience that you can take back into your everyday life. We will even provide refreshments, as that gives us a chance to practice eating mindfully! Whether you’re a meditation newbie, you’ve been using a meditation app, or you’ve read a blog post or a book and want to try it for real, this workshop is for you.

Meditation for Calm and Relaxation @ Miles and Green
Apr 30 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Course – Meditation for Calm and Relaxation [6 weeks]
Teacher | Clive Freeman

Do you feel stressed and anxious at times? It might be because of one big issue, or many times it’s just life – a whole series of little things, one after the other. Does that sound familiar? If so, what can you do about it?

Mindfulness meditation is one approach that many people through the ages have found helpful. Perhaps you may have already tried it, maybe through instructions you found online or with an app on your phone. In this straightforward, hands-on course, our teacher will introduce newcomers to Buddhist meditation, and welcome back those who have already had some experience, with new models and practices.

Buddhism’s “noble truths” say that life is suffering, but that there are ways we can start to unpick its causes. We can always work to reduce its impact in our lives. Mindfulness meditation has been successfully used for 2,500 years in cultures all across the world, by people old and young; modern science is just beginning to unravel some of its secrets. It can help by lowering your blood pressure and heart rate, slowing your breathing, and triggering a “relaxation response” in the body, even if you only practice a few minutes a day.

Come and try it for yourself!
