What is Kinesiology Taping?
Kinesiology tape is a thin, stretchy, elastic cotton strip with an acrylic adhesive. Therapeutic kinesiology tape can benefit a wide variety of musculoskeletal and sports injuries, plus inflammatory conditions.
Kinesiology tape is almost identical to human skin in both thickness and elasticity, which allows kinesiology tape to be worn without binding, constricting or restriction of your movement.
Kinesiology tape is used for treating athletic injuries and a variety of physical disorders. For the first decade after its introduction practitioners in Japan were the main users of the therapeutic kinesiology tape. By 1988 the tape had been adopted by Japanese Olympic and professional athletes before spreading across the world.
You would have noticed that more and more professional athletes use kinesiology taping to improve their sporting performance, prevent injury and allow them to return to sport quicker.
What to expect:
Following a consultation and assessment of the musculoskeletal system, the Kinesio Tape is applied over the muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused tired muscles, and to support muscles in movement on a 24hr/day basis. It is non-restrictive type of taping which allows for full range of motion. The Kinesio Tape is effective in staying in place for several days, it is best to apply to dry skin. Because of this, massage oil will not be applied before application of tape.
Benefits of Kinesiology Taping
Kinesiology tape has a comprehensive array of therapeutic benefits. Because kinesiology taping can usually be left on for several days or up to a week, these therapeutic benefits are available to the injured area 24 hours a day, significantly accelerating the healing process from trauma, injuries and inflammatory conditions. In contrast, traditional sports’ taping is wrapped around a joint strictly for stabilization and support during a sporting event obstructing the flow of bodily fluids.
What Conditions can it help with?
Kinesiology Tape can be used for anything from headaches to foot problems and everything in between. Examples include: muscular facilitation or inhibition in paediatric patients, carpal tunnel syndrome, lower back strain/pain (subluxations, herniated disc), knee conditions, shoulder conditions, hamstring, groin injury, rotator cuff injury, whiplash, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, patella tracking, pre and post surgical oedema, ankle sprains, athletic preventative injury method, and as a support method.
