What have we been up to during isolation…

It’s been a very different 7 weeks to what we are used to.  We have all been up to different things to keep us occupied. We hopw you are managing to keep happy and positive.

Clive – Meditation Teacher

One rule: the pen must never lift. Just for practice, and also as a sort-of existential protest against Instagram’s tidiness and beauty, I’m going to inflict my sketches on the world for a while. I may even get better as we go, but I’m starting super-simple with single-line sketching. I will mix it up at some point – who knows, maybe five lines!

 

Alice – Sports Massage Therapist

Competition winner Reggie! Cats Protection Frome ran a Facebook competition, asking for pictures of funny things that your cats do which make you laugh. The photo with the most likes and loves won the competition and was the face of the Facebook page and that was Reggie. GO REGGIE!

 

Melanie – Reflexologist

Usually working on glass and ceramics for her independent business Blossom & Black, lockdown has seen Melanie starting with a new art medium – acrylic paints. Ordering a box of 60 colours at the beginning of lockdown means she’s got a lot to keep her busy!

 

 

Karen – Boss

Since opening the clinic I haven’t exercised anything like I used to. To be honest I doubt I ever will – I was obsessive! Training and running 7 days a week (dreaming voice) Time has been limited but I personally don’t like to use that saying of ‘having no time’, it simply hasn’t been a priority and that’s ok.
Now give me lockdown… I have been out in my little home gym ALOT! Building up slowly but am now back running and HIIT/weight training. I am loving it. The only thing is – how do I keep this up when I’m back to long hours? I may have to make a plan!

 

Josie – Yoga Teacher

Josie has been busy doing some yoga therapy on zoom, writing courses, workshops and has started doing daily mindfulness and breath work for care home staff in Bristol, which is a fabulous thing to be able to offer them. So all in all a busy bee in lock down!

Since most of us are now in some form of isolation, I decided that we could still keep in touch.  You’ve heard of the famous TED Talks, well this is my version… ‘SHED TALKS’ .  From my SheShed in my garden I will be chit chatting to you about lots of different things over the next few weeks.

Temporary Clinic Closure

As of Saturday 21st March and following government guidelines we have had to temporarily close our clinic.  This is to maintain the safety of our staff, clients and families.  We will re-open as soon as the government allow.

We would like to express our gratitude and thanks to all of our clients who have been so supportive.  Who’s going to be up for reopening party? We are!

We have an Ambassador in the Clinic!

It is with great excitement that I share my news.  I have recently been assigned as an official FHT Ambassador for Wiltshire. The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) is the UK’s largest professional association for therapists, ensuring high standards in therapy education and practice since 1962. I have been an FHT member for 25 years, starting from my student days and was recently made a fellow of the FHT following my length of time as a member and my commitment to our industry.

My new role is to visit colleges and universities in Wiltshire to promote the high standards in professional practice to therapy students and tutors.  Firstly, I cannot wait to go to Trowbridge College where I studied for my very first massage qualifications and secondly…..I’m off to learn how to use PowerPoint!

NEW Team Member

We are very excited to share with you the news of our new team member Josie joining Miles and Green. Josie is going to be delivering Yoga Workshops, Yoga Courses and Yoga Drop-In sessions in our Studio…

About Josie:
I grew up in Devizes and left over 20 years ago and I have recently decided to return to my roots and the beautiful countryside… I am a senior yoga teacher and a yoga therapist and I currently teach yoga classes, workshops and courses in Bristol. I am excited to have the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for yoga with you at Miles and Green.
Prior to becoming a full time yoga teacher I worked in the NHS as a mental health nurse for over 20 years in a variety of roles. In my teaching I combine my experience and passion offering a holistic approach to yoga, exploring how to increase strength and flexibility, as well as improving health and wellbeing in everyday life.

My approach to teaching
In my classes & courses we will explore the essence of a Yoga practice;
Breath- how we breathe has a direct correlation to how we feel, we will explore how to breath efficiently, as well as a variety of Pranayama (Yogic breathing practices). All of which have far reaching benefits for our health & wellbeing.

Asana- physical postures increase strength & flexibility. I encourage a mindful practice, developing a sense of curiosity and playfulness, rather than simply pushing yourself into a shape that you can’t breath or smile in! Our bodies are all different and how we practice needs to reflect this.

Relaxation – learning to relax is a long last art for many of us! We are programmed to do more, try harder & be busy. Finding ways to relax the body and mind is crucial for our health – keeping us in balance.

Yogic Philosophy – there are several foundational texts that underpin yoga practices, which provide a richness & depth to the practice.

Taking time in the class for a balance of action, reflection and relaxation to support modern day life & our own health & wellbeing.

I welcome anyone into class, yoga is for everyone, being able to touch your toes is not necessary or the point!
